Naradakkhadīpanī

Naradakkhadīpanī, “the lamp of the accomplished man” — a nīti text, which Schnake places squarely in “the Nīti genre of Burma” and judges “probably late”. No closer date has been established.

Its interest is that verses in it can be traced travelling. Schnake shows that verses which moved widely through Pali literature, and which shaped the choice of hua chai formulas in the Thai protective tradition, are found here, and infers either a lost common source standing behind this book and the Vajirasāratthasaṅgaha, or composition by Ratanapañña.

Like the Kavidappaṇanīti it has no critical edition and is cited from the Chaṭṭha Saṅgāyana text — the text printed here. On the genre as a whole, Hinüber notes that these collections “rely heavily on Indian Subhāsita traditions” and add verses from Pali sources.
