Subodhālaṅkāraṭīkā

The subcommentary on Saṅgharakkhita's poetics. Its own colophon calls it a nissaya as well as a ṭīkā: Iti subodhālaṅkāranissaye … Subodhālaṅkāraṭīkā samattā.

The author is an ascription, not a signature. Norman, following Malalasekera and the Gandhavaṃsa, gives it to Vācissara, who is placed in the 1200s CE; nothing in the book states it. The Pali catalogue pairs it with a commentary on the Vuttodaya as two works made by Vācissara of his own motion: the ṭīkā on the Subodhālaṅkāra called Mahāsīmā, and the Vuttodayavivaraṇa. On that account the same scholar explained both of Saṅgharakkhita's technical books, the one on rhetoric and the one on metre. The same Vācissara is credited, again by ascription and again on the authority of a chronicle, with the older subcommentary on the Abhidhammāvatāra in this collection.
